Roots & Shoots Rwanda celebrated an important milestone in its work with young environmental leaders โ awarding certificates of recognition to outstanding Environment Club leaders at INES Ruhengeri and G.S. Nyabirasi.
The ceremony honored young people for something that too often goes unacknowledged: the quiet, consistent, determined work of showing up for the environment โ week after week, session after session, activity after activity.
Outstanding club leaders were selected based on their sustained commitment to environmental protection activities, their leadership within club sessions and school communities, and the visible positive impact they had on peers and the broader school environment.
These are students who could have spent that time differently. They chose to plant trees, run awareness campaigns, lead cleanups, and inspire their classmates. That choice deserves to be celebrated.
At Roots & Shoots Rwanda, recognition is not just a ceremony โ it is a strategy. When a young person is acknowledged in front of their school and community, something shifts. They see themselves differently. Their peers see them differently. And the act of leadership becomes something aspirational, not exceptional.
When you celebrate one young leader, you inspire ten more to step forward.
This is how movements grow.
The students recognized at INES Ruhengeri and G.S. Nyabirasi are already changing their communities. As they move through school and into adulthood, they carry with them the values, skills, and identity of environmental stewardship โ values that will shape how they lead, how they vote, how they build, and how they live.
That is the real impact of a certificate ceremony. Not the piece of paper โ but what it represents and what it inspires.
