Awareness on Waste Management at United Primary & Nursery School – Musanze

On 19 May 2023, an environmental awareness activity on waste management was successfully conducted at United Primary & Nursery School in Musanze District. The activity was organized with the support of Roots & Shoots Rwanda, aiming to educate young learners about the importance of protecting the environment through responsible waste management practices.

During the session, students were introduced to the concept of waste management and environmental responsibility. Facilitators explained how waste affects our communities, wildlife, and natural ecosystems when it is not properly managed. The children learned about different types of waste, including organic waste, plastics, and other non-biodegradable materials, and why it is important to reduce, reuse, and recycle whenever possible.

The activity was highly interactive and engaging. Students participated in discussions, shared their ideas about how to keep their school and community clean, and reflected on the importance of caring for the environment. Through these conversations, the learners demonstrated great curiosity and enthusiasm, showing a strong willingness to adopt better environmental habits.

Facilitators also encouraged the students to become young environmental ambassadors by practicing simple actions such as disposing of waste properly, reducing plastic use, and encouraging their families and friends to keep their surroundings clean. By empowering children with this knowledge at an early age, the program aims to nurture a generation that values sustainability and environmental stewardship.
