KIGALI, 23 November 2023 โ #Throwback to this inspiring summer gathering in Rwanda, where peace activists from Noble Women's Initiative (NWI) met with environmental champions from Roots & Shoots Rwanda for a powerful exchange on the connection between peacebuilding and environmental conservation.
Hosted in the spirit of collaboration and shared learning, this meeting created a safe and engaging space for dialogue between women peace leaders and youth environmental advocates. Participants reflected on how climate change, environmental degradation, and resource scarcity often fuel conflict, displacement, and social instability โ particularly affecting women and vulnerable communities.
Through storytelling, community experiences, and discussions on grassroots action, both movements recognized how deeply intertwined their missions are:
As governments, civil society, activists, and private sector actors prepared to gather at #COP28UAE for the UN Climate Change Conference, this partnership reminded us:
Sustainable peace cannot exist without a healthy planet โ and environmental protection cannot succeed without inclusive, community-led peacebuilding efforts.
NWI and Roots & Shoots Rwanda emphasized that climate justice, environmental restoration, and community healing are not separate agendas โ they are one shared mission. ๐ฑ๐๏ธ
