Roots & Shoots Rwanda was invited to participate in the Mentorship Big Day at the University of Rwanda's College of Agriculture, Forestry and Food Sciences (CAFF) — organized by the Department of Eco-Tourism and Green Space Management (EGM).
The event was held under the theme:
"Mentorship: A Path to a Successful Career and Fulfilling Life — Leaving No One Behind"
The Roots & Shoots message for university students is different from the message for primary or secondary school children — but the core is the same: every individual has the power to make a difference, and it starts with individual action.
At UR-CAFF, this message took on particular resonance. These are students studying eco-tourism and green space management — the future guardians of Rwanda's natural landscapes. Roots & Shoots Rwanda challenged them to think not just about careers, but about identity and values: not just what will I do, but who will I be, and what will I stand for.
As part of the day, Roots & Shoots Rwanda joined tree planting activities on campus — a practical, visible expression of the organization's commitment to environmental action alongside inspiration.
In recognition of Roots & Shoots Rwanda's meaningful contribution to mentoring EGM students and broadening their perspectives on environmental careers and civic leadership, the Legal Representative, Dr. Clémence Idukunda, was awarded a Certificate of Appreciation by the university.
This recognition reflects the growing relationship between Roots & Shoots Rwanda and Rwanda's universities — a relationship that is deepening as more students become volunteers, interns, and club facilitators within the organization.
Universities are critical partners for Roots & Shoots Rwanda. They are where the next generation of environmental professionals is being trained — and where Roots & Shoots Rwanda's mission can take root at the level of career and lifelong identity, not just school activities.
The UR-CAFF partnership is one of several active university collaborations, alongside UNILAK's TERA Club and the College of Agriculture, Forestry and Food Sciences interns who joined field activities throughout 2025.
