136 Club Members Visit Ellen DeGeneres Campus

KINIGI, MUSANZE, June 25–26, 2025 — On June 25–26, 136 Roots & Shoots Rwanda club members from G.S Muhoza II, St Aloys Musanze I, and United School took part in an unforgettable two-day educational visit to the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund – Ellen DeGeneres Campus in Kinigi, Musanze District.

Exploring Mountain Gorilla Conservation

Throughout the experience, members explored the world of mountain gorillas — discovering their social behaviors, daily routines, and emotional expressions. Using augmented reality technology, they interacted with digital gorillas and saw firsthand how cutting-edge technology supports conservation efforts in Rwanda.

They also deepened their understanding of the inspiring legacies of Dian Fossey and Dr. Jane Goodall — two powerful women who dedicated their lives to protecting wild apes and inspiring the next generation of conservationists.

Mental Health and Wellness Sessions

In addition to wildlife education, members engaged in sessions focused on mental health and wellness, learning valuable skills in:

• 🧠 Self-awareness and emotional regulation
• 💚 Emotional resilience and coping skills
• 🤝 Compassion — for themselves, others, and the natural world

These sessions reinforced the Roots & Shoots belief that caring for ourselves and caring for our planet are deeply connected.

The Ellen DeGeneres Campus stands as a monument to what dedication and compassion can achieve. For our young members, walking in the footsteps of Dian Fossey and learning about Dr. Jane Goodall's work was a powerful reminder of what is possible when individuals commit to making a difference.
