MUSANZE, 26 September 2025 โ On September 6th, Roots & Shoots Rwanda volunteers Fionah & Genereuse, together with RAWO (Rwanda Animal Welfare Organisation), led a Vultures Day Awareness Campaign at Gataraga Market in Musanze โ near the abattoir, which is a common home for Hooded Vultures.
Under the theme:
"Vultures are FRIENDS of the environment. They give us good health and protect us from diseases."
This campaign celebrated the ecological importance of vultures and engaged the community in their protection.
Vultures play a critical role in our ecosystems by cleaning up dead animals, preventing the spread of disease, and keeping our environment healthy. They are nature's clean-up crew โ yet often misunderstood and persecuted.
The situation in Rwanda is alarming:
Together, we can protect these endangered species and ensure a safer, healthier future for people and nature alike. Every community member has a role to play in reversing the decline of vultures in Rwanda. ๐ฑโจ
