In celebration of World Environment Day 2025, the TERA Club — an environmental club from UNILAK — presented recycled plastic dustbins as a demonstration of youth innovation and practical solutions to plastic pollution.
The event also included a distribution of dustbins to partner schools to support responsible waste disposal within school communities.
Students from TERA Club showcased dustbins they had crafted from recycled plastic materials — proving that waste can become a resource, and that youth creativity is a powerful tool in the fight against plastic pollution.
Schools including EP SUSA II and G.S. Nyabirasi received recycled dustbins to support proper waste management and strengthen environmental responsibility within their communities.
Plastic waste is one of Rwanda's most visible environmental challenges. By promoting youth-led recycling initiatives, Roots & Shoots Rwanda supports a shift in mindset — from seeing waste as a problem to seeing it as an opportunity for innovation and community improvement.
Events like this demonstrate that solutions to environmental challenges already exist within our communities. Young people are not waiting for the future — they are building it today.
