Community Cleanup and Environmental Awareness in Kimihurura Village

About This Event

Roots & Shoots Rwanda, in partnership with KISEKI and the residents of Kimihurura Sector, led a community cleanup in Kimihurura Village — removing plastic waste from streets and homes and clearing overgrown bushes to enhance cleanliness and safety.

What We Did

Volunteers and community residents worked side by side to:

• Remove plastic waste from streets and around homes
• Clear overgrown bushes to improve safety and accessibility
• Hold a community awareness discussion on environmental stewardship and individual responsibility in preventing littering

Community Engagement

The discussion component was as important as the physical cleanup itself. By engaging residents directly, the event built a shared understanding of why litter prevention matters and how every household can contribute to a cleaner, safer neighborhood.

This reflects Roots & Shoots Rwanda's belief that lasting environmental change requires not just action, but awareness — and that communities are the most powerful agents of their own transformation.
