Charity Visit to Genocide Survivor – Cyabagarura Cell, Musanze

About This Event

Roots & Shoots Rwanda, in collaboration with the IBUKA committee from Musanze Sector, visited the home of UWAMARIYA Patricia, a genocide survivor living in extremely vulnerable conditions in Cyabagarura Cell, Musanze District.

Why We Went

UWAMARIYA Patricia survived the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi — and like many survivors, has faced decades of poverty, isolation, and vulnerability in its aftermath. This visit provided direct support and human connection to a woman affected by one of the greatest tragedies in Rwandan history.

What the Visit Meant

The initiative addressed poverty, isolation, and vulnerability while promoting hope, unity, and social inclusion. For Roots & Shoots Rwanda, this was not simply a charitable act — it was an expression of the organization's core values: compassion, respect, and care for all people.

The Roots & Shoots program is rooted in Dr. Jane Goodall's belief that every individual has the power to make a difference. That belief extends to how we treat the most vulnerable members of our communities.
