Animal Welfare Training for Volunteers

About This Event

Roots & Shoots Rwanda conducted a dedicated Animal Welfare Training session for volunteers — building the knowledge, skills, and confidence needed to lead animal welfare education and campaigns in schools and communities.

Training Content

Volunteers were equipped with foundational and practical knowledge across key animal welfare themes:

• The differences between domestic and wild animals and their respective needs
• Principles of responsible animal care and compassionate treatment
• How to design and facilitate animal welfare campaigns in schools
• The importance of inclusive programming — ensuring all students, including marginalized groups, can participate
• Use of Survey123 for monitoring and documentation of animal welfare activities

Why This Training Matters

Effective animal welfare education begins with well-prepared volunteers and facilitators. This training ensures that every R&S representative entering a school or community is equipped to deliver high-quality, evidence-based animal welfare programming.

It is also part of the broader Rwanda–Tanzania Animal Welfare Project, which trains volunteers from both countries to lead cross-border campaigns for compassionate treatment of animals.
